The CHANEL Next Prize is awarded to ten contemporary artists who are redefining their disciplines. As the first international arts award of the House, launched in 2022 as part of the CHANEL Culture Fund, the biennial prize extends a century of arts patronage. It provides grants, mentorship, educational and networking opportunities to a cohort of artists, allowing them to realise their most ambitious projects with complete creative freedom.
The winning artists are:
- Tolia Astakhishvili, an interdisciplinary artist from Tbilisi, Georgia
- Kantemir Balagov, a filmmaker from Nalchik, Russia
- Oona Doherty, a dance choreographer from Belfast, Northern Ireland
- Sam Eng, a game developer and coder from New York, USA
- Ho Tzu Nyen, an animator and video artist from Singapore
- Fox Maxy, a visual artist and film director from the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians, based in San Diego, USA
- Camae Ayewa, or Moor Mother, a musician, poet and visual artist from the USA
- Dalton Paula, an artist and educator from Goiânia, Brazil
- Anna Thorvaldsdottir, a classical music composer from Iceland
- Davóne Tines, a bass-baritone opera singer from Baltimore, USA
As part of the prize, the winners access a two-year mentorship and networking programme facilitated by CHANEL's cultural partners throughout the world, including the Royal College of Art in London.
