Savile Row trained McQueen launches a men's wear line with a short film of his own making set in a single room in which hangs the designer's own portrait. The ready-to-wear collection is finished with the care and attention to detail beloved of the aforementioned great British tailoring tradition. Inspiration this time comes from traditional Jewish dress (morning suits and ceremonial costume), Mods and Skinheads (frock coats, crombies, blazers, puffa jackets, slim-fitting trousers and jackets) and the 1970s peacock male (pinstripe, floral and skull print shirts and ultra-fine cashmere). Tailoring utilises full, hand-sewn canvas construction, collars, shoulders and armholes are also hand-made, sleeve vents are genuinely split. Classic men's wear fabrics come with a twist: Prince Of Wales check worsted wool is boil-washed and embroidered, for example.
