On April 26, 2023, Miu Miu hosted a special screening and dinner party to celebrate the release of the latest commission of its acclaimed Women's Tales short-film series at Water Theatre in Wuzhen, and presented the 25th commission EYE TWO TIMES MOUTH directed by Mexican independent film director Lila Avilés.
The event site, Wuzhen, is praised as "the last resting-on-water town in China" featuring exquisite architecture and profound history and culture. The Water Theatre, where the special screening and dinner took place, serves as the main venue of the Wuzhen Theatre Festival. The close tie between Wuzhen and the film and theatre ingeniously connects the town with Miu Miu "Women's Tales" short-film series.
A hundred of important guests from the cinema, fashion and culture industries attended the screening event that evening. Amongst others, Miu Miu ambassador Qiu Tian, actors Li Landi, Ma Sichun, Ren Min, Wu Yanshu, Zhu Yanmanzi, etc., artists Huang Ying, Li Qing and Peng Wei, filmmaker Yang Jing, and directors Han Shuai, Li Gen, etc. Singer Zhu Jingxi also gave a special live performance during the dinner party.
The next noon witnessed a special conversation themed with "A Woman's Whloe Universe" among director Han Shuai, actor Ma Sichun and artist Peng Wei, who explored the female narrative in contemporary Chinese films and its significance. The conversation was live streamed on Miu Miu's official WeChat Channel account on April 27.
Miu Miu also displayed the full "Women's Tales" series from episode 1 to 25 at the Canal Side Theatre in Wuzhen all day on April 27, presenting the 25 beautiful women’s stories respectively directed by 25 extraordinary female directors. This marked the first screening of all "Women's Tales" films in China.
During the event, the "Miu Miu Wander Guide for Wuzhen" mini program specially conceived for Wuzhen went live, showing around landmark buildings relevant to this event while leading viewers to Miu Miu Club for the full "Women's Tales" short-film series online. This way, it offered an all-round sensory experience, for every guest present to discover the bond between films, stories and the town. Meanwhile, Miu Miu customized tours around Wuzhen for invited guests, including visits to Muxin Art Museum, Indigo Fabric Workshop, Zhaoming Academy, Morning Market, and other local iconic spots - an immersive journey blending film art and cultural essence.
